Remembering Gary “Angry” Anderson
The Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation is deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend and long-standing ambassador, Gary “Angry” Anderson.
Gary “Angry” Anderson and Save Our Sons Founder Elie Eid formed a friendship through their shared experience of fatherhood.
For more than a decade, Angry stood alongside our families and used his unmistakable voice to help give a voice to those living with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy.
He was there during some of the earliest and most important moments in the Save Our Sons journey. In 2015, Angry joined our first Walk for Duchenne from Sydney to Canberra, helping us take our message of hope, urgency, and action all the way to the nation’s capital.
But that was only the beginning.
Over the years, Angry attended countless SOS events and Galas, appeared in our awareness and impact campaigns, travelled on behalf of the Foundation and continually lent his name, his profile and, most importantly, his time to our cause.
Whenever we called, Angry was there.
Gary Anderson (back) was an avid supporter of Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation.
He never hesitated to make himself available, to speak up for our community or to help us tell the stories of children, young adults and families living with Duchenne and Becker. There was never any sense that it was an obligation. He genuinely cared about our families and believed in what we were fighting for.
For our Founder, Elie Eid, the relationship was even more personal.
They connected not simply as an ambassador and a charity founder, but as fathers.
Having experienced the devastating loss of his own son, Angry understood grief, fear and the extraordinary lengths a father will go to for his children. Over the years, he and Elie shared many long conversations about family, loss, resilience and finding the strength to keep moving forward.
In many ways, Angry became a mentor to Elie – someone who could listen, understand, and remind him to keep going when the road ahead felt impossibly difficult.
Gary “Angry” Anderson joined Save Our Sons’ first Walk for Duchenne.
He travelled with Elie to Melbourne, personally representing Save Our Sons and standing beside him in support of our mission and our families. That was Angry. If he believed he could help, he showed up.
Behind the larger-than-life personality and one of the most recognisable voices in Australian music was a man with enormous generosity and compassion.
His loss will be deeply felt throughout the entire Save Our Sons family. He was loved and respected by our staff, our families and the many people who had the privilege of sharing this journey with him.
We will remember Angry not only for the awareness he helped create or the events and campaigns he supported, but for the friendship, loyalty, and kindness he showed us along the way.
To Angry’s family, friends, bandmates, and all those who loved him, we extend our deepest condolences.
