Ollie McPhail - Journey & Story

Ollie McPhail

Hi, my name is Oliver but I like to be called Ollie. I’m from Sydney and will be turning 11 in May. I was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when I was 10 weeks old.

I’m currently in Year 5 and my favourite subject at school is maths. I love anything to do with numbers, problem solving, and patterns. I also like the art and dancing program at school. I want to be a pilot when I finish high school and I would like to get my junior pilot licence in a few years.

I love to play the drums, chess, and Xbox, (not all at once though…!). I like to draw, go swimming and hang out with my mates. I also like to prank my older sister. One time I gave her an Oreo and added lots of salt to the centre. It was so funny!

Walking is getting harder so I have been relying on my manual wheelchair a little more lately. I don’t mind though, it doesn’t stop me from going out and having fun!

My message to other kids with DMD is “don’t be shy to ask for help when you need it”.
