A Wintertime Refresher Zoom Webinar
Winter poses heightened risks for young people and adults living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), especially those with respiratory muscle weakness. Join two of Australia’s leading senior respiratory physiotherapists — Liz Lambrinos and Sharon Kwiatkowski — for a practical and insightful session to sharpen your skills and boost your confidence.
This interactive refresher will cover:
- Prevention and early warning signs
- Practical approaches to managing infections, viruses, and pneumonia
- When and how to use secretion clearance devices and medications
- When to escalate care —clinic or ED
Liz is a Senior Physiotherapist working in the Respiratory Support Service, Department of Sleep and Respiratory Medicine at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. Her special interests are in respiratory failure and airway clearance strategies for patients with complex neuromuscular conditions. Liz has published research in the area of Mechanical Insufflation-Exsufflation (cough assist) and has also created an online training course about cough assist in collaboration with MND Victoria/NSW and fightMND.
Sharon is a physiotherapist with experience working in acute hospital environments, community health chronic disease services and most recently in the Sleep Disorders Centre at Princess Alexandra Hospital. She is a current member of the Qld Respiratory and Sleep Clinical Network Steering Committee and co-chair of the Home Ventilation Working Group. Sharon has a special interest in supporting people living with neuromuscular disorders and high spinal cord injuries to breathe well, cough well and live well.
